On Thursday 29 June 2017 the DAA Investment Arbitration Committee will organize a meeting with the theme: President Trump, Brexit and elections in Europe: will arbitration survive the new era of protectionism?

Location: Linklaters Amsterdam office - Zuidplein 180-WTC, 1077 XV Amsterdam

Investment arbitration has never been the subject of so much criticism as it has over the last two years. Anti-TTIP/CETA demonstrations are now drawing huge crowds and politicians on both sides of the political spectrum are now actively voicing protectionism. What’s more, with Donald Trump as president of the United States and the upcoming elections in Europe, these protectionist tendencies can now become actual policies – with TPP and NAFTA as their first victims. The first panel addresses these challenges for investment arbitration. The second panel addresses the question whether the tendencies could ultimately also affect commercial arbitration as a means of dispute resolution.
